Videos are definitely where it’s at on the Internet. People spend hours on the internet surfing YouTube for something funny, interesting, motivational, a music video or an answer to a question they have.

Videos touch both our vision and hearing senses like movies and TV, only cheaper and with no commercials (or at least very few ads). The more senses you can involve in an experience the better we humans like it. Senses like taste and smell will be added to that video experience once someone perfects their own version of Willy Wonka’s “Smellovision”.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand – videos! Youtube has been joined by many other video sites like Revver, LiveVideo & Dailymotion. Although the entertainment factor of videos is awesome, there is a greater benefit at work for teaching new concepts in internet marketing. Since IM is full of gurus sharing their knowledge, what better way for them to share that knowledge then with videos. Videos can provide information & links like ebooks, but they also provide great value.

Videos help build relationships between the teacher and student since the video can allow the student to see the teacher in action.

Videos show real step by step lessons on how to do something. Many times in an ebook, a step by step lesson would be vague and high level. For example, Step 1-Find Targeted Keywords Step 2-Build Website with those Keywords Step 3-Get Traffic to Website. OK, maybe not that bad, but close. Now, videos allow you to look over the shoulder of the teacher/guru and see exactly what they do and how they do it.

Videos also provide entertainment while teaching.

If you are looking for the secret of success or an explanation of social media marketing on video, all you have to do is go search for it either in your favorite search engine (ie. Google) or directly in your favorite site (ie. YouTube). Here are some videos that I like and wanted to share with you.

Not all Internet marketing training is available simply through video sites. Sometimes you have to know where to look. In my next post, I’ll provide you some excellent video training from some great experts you should know. And the training is free.

Earlier this week I went white water rafting in Washington State. There were 5 people in the raft with a guide/instructor. We were asked if we wanted to go over a 14′ waterfall, told the pros and cons and given about a minute to makeup our minds…

We didn’t have time to think about all the things that could go wrong. We basically had to grab our fear by the throat, trust our guide and the info he had given us and go for it! That was the point! We did not have time to worry about all that might go wrong.

This scenario isn’t very different from what happens with new internet marketers, unfortunately most new internet marketers spend way too much time thinking about what to do, what could go wrong, how they could fail, don’t set any goals and don’t have a trusted mentor/instructor to follow.

At some point, after getting a base of knowledge and/or finding a good mentor, you just have to go for it. Yes, you might fail and flip your raft over, but you learn from your mistakes and move forward. Failing is not easy, but just like the other 5 people in my raft, you are not alone. Even your mentor will fail, they just know how to recover quicker and make adjustments.

Here is a key point. Get good at one thing before you jump to the next thing.

Most out there never really get any good at one specific thing. They distract themselves over and over again. They continue to be only 10% good at a ton of things, but never 90% good at one, very specific, thing…10% good is not good enough. Eric Louviere

Your 90% good can be in PPC, website design, copywriting, driving free traffic, whatever you choose. The key here is once you are 90% good at it, there are a bunch of people out there that are 10% good at it and would love to partner with you or pay for your skill.

We went over that waterfall, scared but excited. One man fell out, but we all agree it was the ride of our lives…. Climb in your raft, find a mentor to help you paddle and TAKE ACTION! Give yourself permission to fail because you will. Look at it like discovering the things that don’t work, so you are that much closer to success.

When you run a membership site you constantly have to provide new content for the site and constantly need to find new people to sign up for the site due to turn over in site membership. With this micro-continuity system, Russell provides answers to those issues. In fact, check out Russell’s MicroContinuity 51 minute video for the secrets on how you can build this type of site in under 48 hours and walk away while continuing to make money month after month. He gives you enough information in this video to create your own site. This concept is awesome.

There are many opportunities on the web to build great websites. Many different gurus will show you how to create a high converting landing page. However, if you build it, who will come? The only way to have high conversions is to have traffic and a lot of it. As simple as this idea is, when I first started out in Internet Marketing, I didn’t get it. Or maybe I thought building the website was the hard part, so I spent many hours learning how to build beautiful websites.

I just didn’t get it! The traffic is what matters! A landing page can be put together using sites like Squidoo, Hubpages, Weebly, or Blogger in a matter of hours. You don’t need your own domain to start.

Your time should be spent on getting targeted traffic to your landing page not necessarily a ton of traffic, just the right traffic. Without traffic that wants to buy what you’re selling, you are just another broke marketer.

It all starts with getting the right keywords. And yes, getting the right keywords comes before building anything. Getting the right keywords may include:

finding keywords that have a decent amount of traffic, even as little as 10 searches a day or less and using multiple keywords for one landing page.

understanding your competition so that you are able to rank on the first page of Google and other search engines

understanding how difficult it will be to get that first page ranking and what you need to do to get it.

understanding whether a person who types in that keyword plans on buying or are they just searching.

Once these questions have been answered and you have a few good keywords, then you can use the top keyword to build your landing page. And use the keywords with social media sites or web 2.0 sites to promote your keyword and your site. These sites are mostly free to use.

Now this formula is slightly different if you have cash available to spend on PPC. But if you’re a broker marketer, then I’d say you have a bigger pile of frustration then cash.

There are many free resources available on the web to teach you the basics of keyword searching and getting traffic. Here is an excellent one that I found that covers both topics. It is Richard Legg’s Instant Traffic Shortcuts. Check it out and remember, your marketing success starts with the traffic.
