I was reading Justin Brooke’s blog today, which is now a vlog and it is really cool. Go check it out at www.sitefling.com/blog. The concept behind this vlog is that it is still a blog, but instead of writing a post as I am doing, Justin creates his posts on video. And if his first video is any indication of what’s to come, each video will be packed with great content and useful information. Each video is under 5 minutes, anyway that is his intention. However, Justin has a tendency to go over on his videos. His twenty minute tackles are usually forty minutes when all is said and done.

Anyway, back to why I named this post “Contact Us (but I really don’t mean it)”. In todays vlog, Justin said he was having a difference of opinion with some of his peers on whether people should have “easy” access to them. Justin posts and mentions his contact information frequently with an invitation to contact him anytime for help. This contact information is not one of those help system, although he does have that to for specific products. His contact information is an email, a phone number (that he actually answers), a Skype account not to mention all of his social accounts like twitter, facebook, linkin, etc.

So, Justin posed the question to his readers whether it was important or “right” for him to be so accessible to the average joe. Well, here are my thoughts based on the fact that I am one of those people that have contacted Justin via the telephone, email and Skype and found these interaction invaluable.

Now I don’t know exactly who Justin is referring to as his peers, but alot of “gurus” have a button to “contact us”. But it seems to me in a lot of cases, they don’t really want you to contact them at all or only contact them if it is convenient for them. The argument can be made that these gurus don’t run a babysitting service and you should just follow their product instructions and quit your whining. However, sometimes you can contact them and get a question answered or a point clarified from their product that is invaluable and will save a ton of time.

Now, I have “contacted” many gurus who have responded in a timely manner. These interaction are usually always through a help system or email. Other than Justin, I have seen very very few gurus offer up their direct telephone number or Skype account. I have also contacted gurus who never bother to respond. Now I understand gurus are busy, so get an assistant that can answer most of the questions without interrupting the gurus golf game.

I say if you are looking for a mentor, like many gurus tell you to do, then you should consider Justin Brooke. You will actually be able to contact him. Justin really believes in helping people, not just taking their money. He’s one of the good ones, along with his wife Chaunna. They are just good people.

Earlier this week I went white water rafting in Washington State. There were 5 people in the raft with a guide/instructor. We were asked if we wanted to go over a 14′ waterfall, told the pros and cons and given about a minute to makeup our minds…

Earlier this week I went white water rafting in Washington State. There were 5 people in the raft with a guide/instructor. We were asked if we wanted to go over a 14′ waterfall, told the pros and cons and given about a minute to makeup our minds…

We didn’t have time to think about all the things that could go wrong. We basically had to grab our fear by the throat, trust our guide and the info he had given us and go for it! That was the point! We did not have time to worry about all that might go wrong.

This scenario isn’t very different from what happens with new internet marketers, unfortunately most new internet marketers spend way too much time thinking about what to do, what could go wrong, how they could fail, don’t set any goals and don’t have a trusted mentor/instructor to follow.

At some point, after getting a base of knowledge and/or finding a good mentor, you just have to go for it. Yes, you might fail and flip your raft over, but you learn from your mistakes and move forward. Failing is not easy, but just like the other 5 people in my raft, you are not alone. Even your mentor will fail, they just know how to recover quicker and make adjustments.

Here is a key point. Get good at one thing before you jump to the next thing.

Most out there never really get any good at one specific thing. They distract themselves over and over again. They continue to be only 10% good at a ton of things, but never 90% good at one, very specific, thing…10% good is not good enough. Eric Louviere

Your 90% good can be in PPC, website design, copywriting, driving free traffic, whatever you choose. The key here is once you are 90% good at it, there are a bunch of people out there that are 10% good at it and would love to partner with you or pay for your skill.

We went over that waterfall, scared but excited. One man fell out, but we all agree it was the ride of our lives…. Climb in your raft, find a mentor to help you paddle and TAKE ACTION! Give yourself permission to fail because you will. Look at it like discovering the things that don’t work, so you are that much closer to success.

I challenge you to find within the next two weeks the one thing you are going to be 90% good at and stick with it until you are successful. Leave me comments on what you have picked and your progress.
