How Do You Stop Being A Broke Marketer?

June 8, 2009

There are many opportunities on the web to build great websites.  Many different gurus will show you how to create a high converting landing page.  However, if you build it, who will come?  The only way to have high conversions is to have traffic and a lot of it.  As simple as this idea is, when I first started out in Internet Marketing, I didn’t get it.  Or maybe I thought building the website was the hard part, so I spent many hours learning how to build beautiful websites.

I just didn’t get it!  The traffic is what matters! A landing page can be put together using sites like Squidoo, Hubpages, Weebly, or Blogger  in a matter of hours.  You don’t need your own domain to start.

Your time should be spent on getting targeted traffic to your landing page not necessarily a ton of traffic, just the right traffic.  Without traffic that wants to buy what you’re selling, you are just another broke marketer.

It all starts with getting the right keywords.  And yes, getting the right keywords comes before building anything.  Getting the right keywords may include:

  • finding keywords that have a decent amount of traffic, even as little as 10 searches a day or less and using multiple keywords for one landing page.
  • understanding your competition so that you are able to rank on the first page of Google and other search engines
  • understanding how difficult it will be to get that first page ranking and what you need to do to get it.
  • understanding whether a person who types in that keyword plans on buying or are they just searching.

Once these questions have been answered and you have a few good keywords, then you can use the top keyword to build your landing page. And use the keywords with social media sites or web 2.0 sites to promote your keyword and your site.  These sites are mostly free to use.

Now this formula is slightly different if you have cash available to spend on PPC.  But if you’re a broker marketer, then I’d say you have a bigger pile of frustration then cash.

There are many free resources available on the web to teach you the basics of keyword searching and getting traffic.  Here is an excellent one that I found that covers both topics.  It is Richard Legg’s Instant Traffic Shortcuts.  Check it out and remember, your marketing success starts with the traffic.

The writer of lesliezengler.com has written a superior article. I got your point and there is nothing to argue about. It is like the following universal truth that you can not disagree with: The Matrix has you. I will be back.
